Biography

J.J. Boehm joined Saginaw Valley State University in 2003 and currently serves as its director of media and community relations. 

Active in the field of public relations, Boehm currently serves as chair of the public information officers committee of the Presidents Council State Universities of Michigan and is immediate past president of the White Pine chapter of the Public Relations Society of America.

A graduate of Leadership Saginaw County and the Great Lakes Bay Regional Leadership Institute, Boehm received the President’s award from the Saginaw County Chamber of Commerce for chairing the 2010 campaign to renew public support for the Dow Event Center, which generates $12.5 million in economic activity each year. The ballot measure passed with more than 62 percent support.  He also was honored with a RUBY award in 2010, as one of the top professionals under the age of 40 in the Great Lakes Bay Region.

Active in his community, Boehm currently chairs the communications committee for the United Way of Bay County and serves on the board for the Peace Lutheran Church and School Foundation in Saginaw.

Prior to joining SVSU, Boehm had an award-winning broadcast career during his seven years at WSGW radio. He received more than 20 first place awards for broadcast journalism from the Michigan Associated Press in categories such as enterprise/investigative reporting, feature story, and excellence in individual reporting.  Boehm continues to work behind the microphone, providing the play-by-play for SVSU football since 2000.

Boehm completed a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Valparaiso University and a master's degree in administrative science from SVSU.
