Dr. Jennifer Chaytor is a Professor of Bioorganic Chemistry at Saginaw Valley State University where she has taught organic chemistry lectures and laboratories since 2012. Being born and raised in Ontario, Canada, Jennifer received her BSc. (Honours) in Biochemistry from Brock University (St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada) in 2005 and her PhD in Organic Chemistry from the University of Ottawa (Ottawa, Ontario, Canada) in 2010. She was a post-doctoral fellow at the University of Alberta (Edmonton, Alberta, Canada) from 2010 – 2012 before joining the Department of Chemistry at SVSU in 2012.
CHEM 230, 231 - Organic Chemistry I lecture and lab
CHEM 250 - Survey of Biochemistry
CHEM 330, 331 - Organic Chemistry II lecture and lab
CHEM 415 - Advanced Organic Chemistry
Dr. Chaytor's research group focuses on bioorganic and medicinal chemistry. There are three main areas of research:
1) Synthesis of C-linked carbohydrates
2) Synthesis of cyclic peptides with attractive biological/medicinal properties
3) Synthesis of functionalized cellulose to improve water quality
