Biography

Dr. Carl Angelo is Artist in Piano and Organ at Saginaw Valley State University, the organist at First Presbyterian Church of Flint, Michigan, and pianist for the Saginaw Choral Society. He has performed as a soloist and collaborative musician on piano and organ throughout the United States. He has lectured and performed for the American Matthay Association for Piano, co-edited with Marie Hasse materials based upon the ideas of Matthay pupil Helen Parker Ford, and conducted clinics for the American Guild of Organists. He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Indiana University where he studied with Larry Smith. He was the winner of the 1987 American Guild of Organists Young Artist Competition, Indianapolis, Indiana and is a member of Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honorary Society. He holds Master of Music and Bachelor of Music degrees from Kent State University where he studied organ with John D. Herr and John Ferguson, and piano with Robert Palmieri. Extensive piano study was with Nellie Whittaker, a pupil of Guy Maier, and coaching with Gary Wolf, professor emeritus of the University of Central Florida.

Angelo has performed with soloists and chamber ensembles, including a two-piano concert with Saginaw pianist Catherine McMichael and as guest pianist with the Valley Winds woodwind quintet. Angelo was the pianist for the celebrated violin virtuoso Elizabeth Pitcairn for her Saginaw, Michigan concert tour and for opera tenor Paul Spensor Adkins’ week-long series of performances, including an engagement at the Temple Theatre, Saginaw, Michigan. He has accompanied choruses under the direction of conductors Vance George, director emeritus of the San Francisco Symphony Chorus, and Craig Jessop, former director of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir
